Essential Functions

This person will play an important part in the work that we do each day. Under the direction of the Executive Director of Education and the District Director of School Age Programs the Center Director is responsible for the administrative and operational operations of the before and after school program at Chestnut Street. In addition to all other duties as assigned, this role will:


      Administrative Responsibilities: include

    • Participate in hiring, engaging and developing a team of quality educators
    • Participate in hiring, training and supervising employees and volunteers and evaluate effectiveness of all programs, keeping with the YMCA core values
    • Conduct weekly and monthly staff meetings
    • Manage time cards
    • Implement staffing schedule
    • Participate in establishing budgets for the center
    • Demonstrate the ability to work with supervisors, and at time, state officials, in all matters concerning daily and weekly center evaluations and accident/incident reports
    • Maintain accurate records of both staff and children
    • Establish policies and communicate them to staff and parents


    Operational Responsibilities: include

    • Provide training and professional development opportunities for staff
    • Delegate tasks
    • Provide reasonable accommodations to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions
    • Partner with parents to provide the best care and education for their children, including discussing difficult behavior, child progress, etc.
    • Ensure facilities are maintained and cleaned according to state regulations
    • Assist staff in resolving conflicts between children and communicating with parents
    • Cultivate positive relationships with families, teachers, state licensing authorities, community contacts and corporate partners
    • Develop educational programs and set educational standards
    • Work with Transportation and Desk Supervisors when sharing staff, to ensure smooth transition from one department to another
    • Ensure Breakfast Club transportation is coordinated and ensure effectiveness of daily morning bus routes

Additional years of professional experience or a Rank of E-5 or better may be used in lieu of education requirements where permitted.


  • Must be at least 20 years of age at time of application (EEC requirement)
  • Associates degree (completed or in progress) in education, child studies, child psychology, or other related field
  • At least 3 years of experience in working with school-age children
  • At least 2 years of experience in a customer service / relations
  • At least 2 years of experience in staff supervision
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certifications or willing to obtain within 60 days of hire
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct complex, critical problem solving independently
  • Knowledge of and ability to learn appropriate child development techniques
  • Demonstrated track record of timeliness and punctuality
